The LG-made Nexus 5X officially went on sale in a number of select markets on Monday, Oct. 19, available for purchase directly from the Google Store.

Google took the wraps off its latest flagship smartphones last month, unveiling the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P to eager Nexus fans. The two handsets raised lots of interest and one of them has now hit store shelves.

The smaller model, the Nexus 5X, is now available for purchase in the U.S., the UK, Canada, Ireland, India, Japan and Korea, hitting the Google Store of each respective country. Depending on location, the handset is also available for purchase from other retailers.

As a reminder, the LG-made Google Nexus 5X comes in 16GB and 32GB storage options. In the U.S., the 16GB model retails for $379 while the higher-capacity version goes up to $429. Prices will vary by carrier and market.

When it comes to the rest of the specifications, the Nexus 5X features a 5.2-inch full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels at 423 ppi), a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 12.3-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and IR laser assisted autofocus, and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front. The smartphone draws power from a 2,700 mAh battery and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, serving as one of the launch vehicles for Google's latest mobile OS.

Other highlights of the LG Nexus 5X include a USB Type-C port for faster data transfers and fast charging, as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for extra security and convenience.

This year marks the first time Google has released two Nexus smartphones and the strategy is expected to be successful. The two Nexus handsets from different manufacturers will cater to different needs, preferences and budgets and both should perform well on the market.

"Nexus devices are about having the newest, purest Android experience possible in an advanced package that doesn't break the bank," LG President and CEO Juno Cho said in a new press release on Monday, Oct. 19. "The Nexus 5X was designed from the ground up to live up to the expectations of the millions of Android purists worldwide who won't accept second best. After two successful collaborations, we think customers will agree that this is our best Nexus to date."

Customers interested in the Nexus 5X can order the smartphone now in the key launch markets listed above and will start receiving their handsets on Oct. 22.
