Ubisoft has said time and time again how the upcoming Rainbow Six Siege won't feature a traditional campaign story mode, instead focusing on competitive and cooperative multiplayer.

That, however, doesn't mean the game is without a single-player. Announced today, Rainbow Six Siege will include 11 single-player scenarios that will serve as an introduction to the various operators and game mechanics.

IGN recently got to try out five of the scenarios, and it sounds like they are a diverse bunch. One takes place on a VIP Jet and tasks the players with clearing out the terrorists using the breaching charge launcher of FBI operator Ash. Another is a hostage extraction mission that puts a silenced sniper rifle in the hands of the player and tasks them with getting the hostage out alive.

It's not all breaching and clearing, though. There will be defensive missions as well, like the one IGN checked out that requires players to put up defenses in a house and protect a hostage from three waves of terrorists.

While it's not a campaign mode, it's still nice to see that there is at least something for Rainbow Six Siege players to do when their friends aren't online or they don't feel like hopping into competitive multiplayer. Scenarios sound an awful lot like missions in Star Wars Battlefront, which EA recently detailed in full earlier this week. Both are single-player modes for mostly multiplayer games, with both Rainbow Six's scenarios and Battlefront's missions serving the dual purpose of both entertaining and training new players in the ways of the game. That way, players are 100 percent up to speed when they jump into multiplayer.

Perhaps this is the beginning of a trend. Rather than develop a single-player story, developers of multiplayer-focused titles may simply craft a few standalone missions that allow players to get their feet wet before diving into the bulk of the game's content. Don't worry, Call of Duty still has a campaign mode ... for now.

Rainbow Six Siege launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on Dec. 1.
