Multinational company Tencent is one of the biggest players on the internet. Most Americans are familair with Facebook, Google, and Amazon, as these are some of the top names in the industry. However, the Chinese company is breathing down their neck, and probably waiting for the right moment to take on these U.S. companies.

In November 2017, Tencent soared past through Facebook with a market capitalization valuation of $530 billion. It is the first Chinese company to hit the $500 billion market cap, even beating the e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba. It also puts the company at the top five largest corporations in the world, behind Amazon with a $542.7 billion valuation.

As Tencent gets bigger and bigger, it is the perfect time to learn more about this Chinese company. It's a fairly unfamiliar name now in the United States, but soon, it may become a bigger brand than Facebook, Amazon or Google.

Most people who use smartphones might have even used a Tencent product, without even knowing it. While its messaging apps are not as popular in the west as they are in Asia, most casual mobile gamers would have likely played the popular mobile game Clash of Clans, whose maker Supercell was acquired by Tencent.
