Even if the long waiting for Mirror's Edge: Catalyst was supposed to halt in February 2016, the game gets delayed until May next year, a post on the companies' blog informs.

The fast-paced title was scheduled to enter the market during the same timeframe with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Far Cry Primal, but publisher Electronic Arts and developer DICE decided to push it back a little longer.

DICE's Senior Producer, Sara Jansson, underlined that the setback is caused by final touches that will ensure the best gameplay experience for players.

"We will use these few extra months to make sure that when you step into the massive City of Glass and experience the rise of Faith, it's as entertaining, impressive, and memorable as it can be." DICE's Senior Producer Sara Jansson, wrote.

The theoretical release date for Mirror's Edge: Catalyst was Feb. 23, 2016, according to a tweet from EA. The statement was made just before E3 2015, and was followed up by samples of the game's parkour-inspired gameplay. Voices from inside the company suggest that the title will be a proud reboot of the free-running game from seven years ago, while at the same time it will reinvent itself in a few areas.

One departure from the original game is the absence of handgun combat. The multiplayer experience will get boosted by having entertaining, competitive Dash races, and by allowing players to communicate with each other via destroyed billboards.

The last update on the evolution of the game dates to July, when DICE left the door open on the game's narrative with a story video trailer.

More than once, studios who postponed the release of a game did so because there were minor improvements to be done. Others have launched titles regardless whether the end product was satisfactory or not. With the scarce information at hand, fans of Mirror's Edge: Catalyst may only hope that the first variant applies here. For those who were faithful enough to wait seven years to see the City of Glass shine again, a couple more months is nothing.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst should come out on May 24, 2016. Supported platforms are Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
