Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 is a huge hit with consumers so much that some models have sold out online at Microsoft's store as well as at other retailers. Certain configurations of the Surface Pro 4 are sold out everywhere, with long wait times, so here's a roundup of the current availability of the devices.

Microsoft's recently-released and upgraded flagship tablet has a variety of combinations of processors, storage space and RAM. The storage options include 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB. RAM options are 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB and processors include any of three options, the 6th Gen Intel Core m3, i5 or i7. Consumers are supposed to be able to configure the i5 and i7 devices with varying amounts of RAM and storage space, while the entry-level Core M processor is only available with the lowest storage and RAM options.

It appears as if the Surface Pro 4 with either the i5 or i7 processor is not currently available from Microsoft's website in the larger storage space options. The i5 is currently showing just 128 GB of storage space available, while the i7 is only available in the 256 GB storage option. Microsoft does not allow buyers to configure models for preorder.

A check of other online retailers shows Best Buy with an option to preorder a preconfigured i5 processor-equipped Surface Pro 4 with 512 GB of storage for "release on Nov. 23." B&H Photo shows the Surface Pro 4 with the i7 processor and 512 GB storage with 16 GB of RAM available for preorder, but not the i5. B&H, however, gives no specific date of release for the device when preordered in that configuration. The store also has a tool similar to that on the Microsoft website that allows users to configure their own combination of processor, RAM and storage options, but it still doesn't allow for most combinations.

Meanwhile, Amazon's stock seems to somewhat echo that of Microsoft's, with the m3- and i5-equipped devices available only in preconfigured 128 GB storage with 4 GB RAM options, while the i5 tablet is available in an additional 256 GB storage with 8 GB RAM configuration. No i7-equipped Surface Pro is currently listed.

With the holiday shopping season around the corner, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can alleviate some of the shortages associated with the Surface Pro 4 in some of the most desired configurations, or if availability will decrease further with even higher demand.
