Activision and developer Treyarch have revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will soon get modding and mapping tools for its PC version... but not until 2016.

In a blog post shared by Treyarch, it says fans have long been requesting for the arrival of these tools for its blockbuster shooter.

In the previous titles of the Call of Duty series, the developers have always offered the ever-popular multiplayer scenes, but it never gave gamers the chance to build their very own maps and mods. This will soon change, specifically for the PC edition of the video game. Starting next year, gamers will get treated to a bevy of modding and mapping tools for them to come up with their own content.

Apart from the ability to create maps and game mods, the developer has outlined its other present plans in its post, including:

Unranked Dedicated Server Files – Treyarch will soon incorporate Unranked Dedicated Server Files with the tools so gamers can run servers with their own game mods.

Unranked Server Browser – This will be provided to the gamers so they can seamlessly discover and join servers which are equipped with mods, maps and modes.

It is worth noting that Treyarch is aiming a March alpha testing on these modding and mapping tools.

"Please remember that this is software development, so things don’t always work out exactly as planned," says Cesar Stastny, director of development at Treyarch. "Sometimes features slip or drop off altogether, sometimes they get replaced with other, more awesome features as we hit into limitations of our original plans."

In addition, Treyarch has disclosed that it plans to release an open beta for these new features. The studio, however, has yet to announce the exact date for the rollout of the open beta version.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is slated to hit store shelves on Friday, Nov. 6, for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

In the meantime, the last-gen editions will be made available at a reduced priced as these will not include a campaign mode.
