For the very first time, after a slew of leaks and rumors in the past, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is finally going co-op, allowing gamers to fight together (not against one another)... but for a limited time only.

Battle.net reveals in a blog post the Tavern Brawl event, dubbed "Unite Against Mechazod," will only run for a week from Nov. 4 through Nov. 9, perhaps to check out how popular this mode is before it puts put its full attention to enhancing this new functionality.

"Combine forces to defeat Gearmaster Mechazod," reads the blog post. "You’ll each be piloting a pre-built deck assembled to give both you and your partner on the other side of the board a chance to take out the technological terror."

Each turn, as described in the post, Mechazod will move from one side of the board to the other. Both gamers need to join forces, because if one gamer is defeated, both of them will lose. Players will be randomly assigned either Paladin or Priest.

Gearmaster Mechazod is described in the blog as touting an array of tools and a bevy of "gnasty gnomish inventions" to fight against the gamers. Interestingly, even if gamers will lose, they will still be given a free pack for the week.

"[G]ear up to cooperate, annihilate and exterminate," writes Blizzard.

It was rumored back in February 2014 that the developer was working on a 2-vs-2 game mode experiment. Just this August, a few individuals purportedly uncovered references to a co-op mode and Gearmaster Mechazod. Well, the data mining seems to have turned out accurate.

It is anticipated that Blizzard will hash out more on Hearthstone at the slated BlizzCon, which kicks off on Friday, Nov. 6.

Hearthstone can be played via Windows PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices, free of charge, and supported by gamers purchasing the virtual cards to add into their decks and collections.

In the meantime, the third collegiate Hearthstone tournament was held earlier this year with over $100,000 in scholarship money as bounty. In the previous year, the price was $5,000.
