Huawei has finally entered the smartwatch market controlled by the Apple Watch, launching its own iOS-compatible Huawei Watch.

The gadget first came to prominence eight months ago at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 held in Barcelona, Spain. The Huawei Watch is powered by Android Wear, and the design is one of the best looking we have seen on a smartwatch since the Moto 360.

Beginning today, Nov. 5, those who are interested can get a Huawei watch from vMall or selected Selfridges stores in the United Kingdom. Don't expect to see an inexpensive device here, as the price begins at £289 for the silver model that comes with a leather band.

There are other models that come with different colors and bands as well, but they will cost extra. The most expensive is the Rose Gold version, which will cost £599. It is not yet available on vMall's website, but we're certain it will arrive soon enough.

When it comes down to the specifications, the device comes with a 1.4-inch 400x400 AMOLED display that is always on. Huawei claims the screen is one of the most vibrant on the market today. The screen also comes with a sapphire glass coating to help prevent scratches and to offer some degree of water resistance.

The overall body of the watch is stainless steel, which makes it 40 percent tougher when compared to other competing devices, according to Huawei.

On the inside, the Huawei Watch is rocking a Qualcomm processor, though we know nothing of the speed. Furthermore, there's 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

The Huawei Watch is looking like a true competitor to the Apple Watch in a market that is slowly becoming saturated. Still, it is remains to be seen if this device will have a big impact on the Android Wear market itself. It wouldn't come as a surprise, since Huawei has now become the second largest Android manufacturer in Europe, according to a new report from Kantar Worldpanel.
