Disney Research has done it again. The division is known for previously showing off things like an app that can create 3D characters from drawings, as well as designs for a bipedal robot.

This time around, the company has released a video that shows a software that allows users to create a mount to connect almost anything to anything else.

Why is this such a big deal? Well, if 3D printing is ever going to be an important tool to the general public, it needs to be able to print things that are useful for users, and it needs to be a lot more accessible than it currently is. Users aren't going to want to learn how to use highly-technical 3D printing software just to 3D print.

The new software is a step in the right direction for both of these things. It allows users to make things that could be very useful. Not only that, but it also makes 3D printing easier to use, allowing users to simply think up a design and print it out.

To use the software, users need to have 3D models of the two objects they want to connect, and the software will suggest a number of connector designs for the user to consider. Users pick the one they like, which they can tweak a little, and then hit print.

You can check out a video of the new software in action below.
