General Motors on Monday, Nov. 9 has taken the wraps off the 2017 Cadillac XT5, built to replace the Cadillac SRX crossover, bringing with it a slew of improvements which include more technology, more interior space and 278 pounds lighter than its forerunner.

For the first time, the 2017 XT5, otherwise referred to as Crossover Touring 5, will be offered to car enthusiasts in a platinum trim.

The XT5 was showcased in Dubai during the Dubai Auto Show, with the production already slated to begin next spring in China and the United States. The car will be debuted this coming week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where it will be aimed at those who are fond of German luxury brands in the likes of BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

"The all-new XT5 not only enters the most popular segment in the worldwide luxury auto market, it is the first of four new crossovers from Cadillac," notes Johan de Nysschen, president of Cadillac Motor Car Division. "It's pivotal to our ongoing growth, which is why we've developed XT5 from the inside out to provide customers with more space, technology, luxury and efficiency."

Folks from Cadillac have centered their attention to connectivity and safety on the midsized 2017 XT5. The car rocks a patented Rear Camera mirror system, improving the rear vision of the driver by 300 percent as it employs a video display on its rearview mirror. It likewise comes equipped with OnStar 4G LTE, Wi-Fi hotspot and CUE infotainment system.

On the inside, owners are treated with cut-and-sewn wrapped panels. As compared to the SRX, the 2017 XT5 touts more horizontal and wider interior surfaces. Its rear-seat legroom has likewise increased by 3.2 inches when compared to its predecessor.

"Our focus for the interior was sophistication and simplicity, ensuring an economy of lines to reduce visual noise and clutter," says Andrew Smith, executive director of global design. "A feeling of space is the ultimate luxury, so we sought to emphasize that."

The XT5 which is marketed in the U.S. will be equipped with 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine. The car's engine boasts the active fuel management system of GM, which instinctively deactivates two cylinders at lower speeds to conserve fuel. It touts a peak performance of 310 horsepower. It also promises 270 pound-feet of torque.

What's more, the five-passenger car sports a revamped, tougher and more rigid chassis and body structure.

In the meantime, it's worth pointing out that its North American production is transferring from a plant in Mexico to the U.S. The marketing headquarters of the brand will also transfer to New York.
