There's nothing quite like one tech giant directing trash talk at another ... especially when it's coming from a CEO.

Speaking at a meeting of the Philosophical society at Trinity College in Ireland on Wednesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook didn't hesitate ripping the Surface Book, rival Microsoft's Windows 10-powered notebook with a detachable touchscreen display. Cook is just not impressed.

"It's a product that tries too hard to do too much," Cook said about the Surface Book, as reported by Irish Independent. "It's trying to be a tablet and a notebook and it really succeeds at being neither. It's sort of deluded."

It's a bold statement to make, considering some critics have compared the Surface Book and the new iPad Pro. That and Cook made the comments, as sales of the iPad continue to drop.

Still, he also used the platform Wednesday to say that he believes the sales of Apple's tablets will come back around again, especially on the strength of the company's new iPad Pro 12.9-inch version, which can be used with a keyboard and stylus named the Pencil.

"I believe the iPad will return to growth," he said, adding that he only travels with an iPad Pro and iPhone these days.

Cook's slight of the Surface Book comes a day after he told The Telegraph that the iPad Pro will kill the PC.

"I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?" Cook said in the interview. "Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones."

Let's see if the iPad Pro can back up Cook's talk.
