343 Industries is rolling out a new update for Halo 5: Guardians that include the Big Team Battle maps, new legendary REQ packs and new gear. The best part about the update is all these new features are free.

The free Battle of Shadow and Light update is the first since the launch of the latest Halo title. Previously, not everyone got the DLC map packs in the games, so they wouldn't be able to play these maps with their friends. Now everyone can play the Big Team Battle mode which features 8-vs-8 custom-made maps, which take elements from maps from the franchises's first four titles, while including new mobility, weapons and features of Halo 5.

The maps were made in collaboration between 343 and the Forge community, and include a 16-player vehicular carnage when the Big Team Battle playlist becomes available next week. Players will be able to jump in a Warthog and compete against their friends in the new canvasses that include: Deadlock, Basin, Guillotine and Recurve.

Along with the Big Team Battle mode, the new update also will include new skins and weapons, including the ultrarare Shinobi ninja-themed armor and Legendary Dying Star Light Rifle firepower.

As part of the new Requisition Packs added to the update, players will be able to access the new Tundra and Woodland-themed camouflage skin pack for the Moongoose, Warthog, Scorpion and Mantis, as well as vehicles. There are also new designs for helmets, chest pieces, and new emblems.

The Halo 5 update also features a new assassination technique called "Shove It." The sometimes hilarious move has the Spartan counter a knife strike by taking a knee to the opponent's face.
