Having Windows 10 on mobile devices is exciting for a lot of people, especially owners of smartphones who run on Windows 8.1 and look forward to upgrading their OS.

Currently, only two handsets have Windows 10 Mobile preinstalled, and they both come from the Redmond-based company: the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL.

As the hype around the two premium smartphones from Microsoft grew stronger, the pre-order lists filled up. Some customers will get their hands on the Lumia flagships as soon as this week, while people who waited too long to order will get their Lumia phones at the beginning of December.

The Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL are the first Windows 10 Mobile handsets to feature iris scanning support, a novel way of keeping your phone secure. The technology proves to be faster (and arguably safer) than the fingerprint scanners that are now commonplace.

A few days ago, Microsoft updated its Windows Mobile site and showcased how the Lumia devices work and what makes them special. The OS developer provided videos, screenshots and GIFs to take its point home.

One of the most interesting functions that the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL offer is Windows Hello, which allows owners to take full advantage of the iris-based unlock system. The software recognizes the user's face and iris and unlocks the device if the result is correct.

To set up Windows Hello, simply press the Start button, find the Settings menu, go to Accounts and check the appropriate box in the Sign-in options.

Microsoft fans who want to spend less for an iris-scanning phone will be able to do so in the near future.

"The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are ready to use Windows Hello now, and more devices that have iris recognition are coming soon," Microsoft states on its webpage.

It is unclear if Microsoft referred to its own rumored mid-tier line of smartphones or some plans from other OEMs to implement iris sensors on their handsets. According to recent whispers, the rumored Surface Phone could be in the testing phase and it might be the next handset to bring Windows 10 and iris sensor technology into stores.
