The rugged sibling of the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone, the Galaxy S6 active, has been languishing on Android Lollipop for quite some time. While the device may take a while to get a taste of Android Marshmallow, AT&T is finally pushing out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update for its variant of the Galaxy S6 active.

AT&T rolled out the Android 5.1.1. Lollipop update for its Galaxy S6 two months ago. Even the older-gen Galaxy S5 active benefited from Android 5.1.1 Lollipop last week.

Now AT&T has finally taken the plunge and the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is set to make its way to the carrier's variant of the Galaxy S6 active. The smartphone is exclusive to AT&T.

This is no rumor as Samsung has posted the arrival of the over-the-air (OTA) update with the build number G890AUCU3BOJE on its support page. However, Samsung does not shed any light on the features the software update is set to bring, its size and arrival time window.

The Samsung Customer Care team further disclaims that it cannot "speculate on when a future software update may be released. The information provided is for U.S. models only; unlocked, rooted, or non-U.S. devices are not supported."

While most of the features and enhancements the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S6 active remain undisclosed, Samsung's page reveals that the update will bring support for Samsung Pay, the mobile payment system which rivals Android Pay and Apple Pay.

Since the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S6 active is an OTA one, it will be pushed out by AT&T in phases. An alert for the update should pop up automatically or one can check manually. To do so, navigate to Settings > System > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.
