Two upcoming Samsung smartphones have made their way through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) signaling a possible imminent announcement. New details regarding the Galaxy A3 and A5 have been uncovered.

Samsung was often criticized for its overuse of cheap-feeling plastic prior to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Edge+ and Note 5, which are most famous for the company's new design philosophy of using premium materials like metal and glass in its latest flagship devices. Now the company is reportedly planning to launch a follow-up to its Galaxy A series, which provided some of the first glimpses at Samsung's refocus on design.

The Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 were well-received when they were introduced in October 2014 and provided consumers with an ultra-slim smartphone with a metal unibody case that was very reminiscent of Apple's iPhone 5/5s, complete with chamfered edges. The smartphones came at varying price points, which also attributed to their success.

We recently reported that Samsung was believed to be readying a follow-up to the Galaxy A series when the Galaxy A3 (SM-A310) and Galaxy A7 (SM-A710x) made an appearance on popular benchmarking site, GFXBench.

We appear to be getting close to an official announcement, now that the new Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 have made their way through the FCC. One of the most interesting details discovered in the filings is that the mid-range Galaxy A5 will get an upgrade in the battery department.

A screenshot of the Samsung Galaxy A5, which is listed by its model number (SM-A5100), lists the smartphone with a battery capacity of 2,900mAh, which is a significant step up from the previous generation A5's 2,300mAh battery.

While the specs of both smartphones aren't listed, previous reports have claimed the Galaxy A3 will feature a 4.7-inch 1,280 x 720 display, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

The Galaxy A5 is expected to feature a 5.2-inch 1,920 x 1,080 Full HD display, 1.6GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and same 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras found on the Galaxy A3.

The FCC listing could indicate an imminent announcement, but as always, we'll keep you posted on any new Samsung Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 news as it happens.
