U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed the official White House Christmas tree to signal the start of the holiday season.
On Friday, Nov. 27, accompanied by the pet pooches Bo and Sunny, Michelle Obama greeted the 18.5-foot Fraser fir tree.
Two days prior, President Obama pardoned two turkeys named "Abe" and "Honest." The turkey pardon is an annual holiday tradition at the White House.
Workers at the President's official residence were busy positioning several Christmas trees in the premises. The Fraser fir tree, which would be the centerpiece of the Blue Room, arrived on a horse-drawn carriage.

The tree has been grown by Pennsylvania-based Jay and Glenn Bustard who gifted the fir tree to the Obamas. The White House Christmas tree will be displayed in the Blue Room at the White House during the holidays. It is traditionally placed in the room and this year, Michelle Obama revealed that the tree will honor the military.
The colossal tree was grown at a farm in Lansdale, Pennsylvania and was presented by the owners to the First Lady. Since 1966, the National Christmas Tree Association's members have presented the official Christmas tree to the White House, which is unfailingly displayed in the Blue Room.
This year was no different: Jay and Glenn Bustard entered a nationwide contest to win the coveted chance of presenting the Christmas tree to the first family, which would be on display at the White House.
In the coming week, President Obama will be lighting the National Christmas Tree, which is in the Ellipse (President's Park South), located close to the White House.
