The dashboard-mashing, high-speed stunt car show, Top Gear, will return to the BBC on Sunday, May 8 with a new presenter in tow — Chris Evans.

In fact, it was Evans who broke the news during an interview on BBC1's Saturday Kitchen, according to The Guardian.

Evans said that he has "already started making the films."

"We're going to America to make our first intercontinental in January," he added.

Although it's still rather mum on who Evans' co-hosts would be, what's confirmed is that the impending Top Gear season will have 16 action-packed episodes being broadcast on BBC2 next spring.

There are still plenty of questions about how this return of Top Gear will fare and how it will be received by fans, however. That's mainly because the show's original host, Jeremy Clarkson, had a falling out with Top Gear's producer earlier this year, causing him and fellow original personalities Richard Hammond and James May to sign with Amazon Prime for another car show.

Even with Evans in the driver's seat, he will have big shoes to fill in Clarkson's absence, considering the latter presenter seemingly did it all behind the wheel of some of the most sought-after, supercharged vehicles in the world, in a distinctive, entertaining manner.

Perhaps it's best for Evans to try to not duplicate what the trio before him accomplished, but instead, bring his own vibe and feel to the franchise.

He may need to reinvent the wheel, considering his reprised Top Gear may go up against whatever Clarkson, Hammond and May are cooking up with Amazon.
