This week's episode of The Flash and Arrow feature crossover episodes that will help set up The CW's newest superhero series Legends of Tomorrow, which premieres early next year.

In a sneak peek, The CW finally teases the origin stories of Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée), as well as explains why Legends villain Vandal Savage is after the couple.

This particular scene, which takes place in The Flash episode "Legends of Today" shows Hawkman tied up in S.T.A.R. Labs, while the Flash (Grant Gustin) and Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) interrogate him. Hawkman explains that he and Kendra (the name Hawkgirl knows herself as) are soulmates, forever destined as lovers, but also forever destined to die at the hands of Savage.

Everytime Savage kills them - and so far, it's been over 200 times - he gains more power. After their deaths, the Hawk duo reincarnates and gives the villain a chance to do it all over again and again. However, this time, things are different: they have the help of Team Flash and Team Arrow.

"Most of The Flash episode takes place in Star City and most of the Arrow episode takes place in Central City," said Amell to Buddy TV. "We have a common villain, which was not the case last year, and just in general, we've done an excellent job of weaving not just two shows, but three shows together. I think these crossover episodes standing together will probably be, in my mind, the pinnacle achievement for both shows. I really think so."

Of course, these episodes both lead up to Hawkman and Hawkgirl flying off to join their own series, Legends of Tomorrow. However, the transition won't come easily for Hawkgirl, who still isn't sure of who she really is.

"Having wings come out of your back I think is a pretty traumatic experience," said Renée to Nerd Reactor. "At first she doesn't remember him, so he's clearly remembering all of our past lives and relationship, and I'm like, 'You're a psycho. Who are you?' A lot of this is Hawkgirl's origin and he's helping her find the warrior, figure her past life."

The Flash crossover episode "Legends of Today" airs on December 1 (tonight), with the Arrow crossover episode "Legends of Yesterday" airing on December 2 (tomorrow). Legends of Tomorrow premieres on the network on January 21.
