A couple of weeks ago, the Huawei Nexus 6P hit the mass market and was greeted with love from customers. It seems Google may have been happy about the workmanship on the Nexus 6P as well, as the Chinese phone maker could manufacture the 2016 Nexus 7 — if the rumor holds true, that is.

Asus produced the earliest Nexus 7, and back in July 2012, Google launched the Android tablet, making it the first Nexus tablet in the world. The original version had impressive specs and an affordable price, and as a result, it became one of the bestselling tablets in the market.

Another Nexus 7 was released back in 2013, and the Android tablet came with some overall improvements, maintaining the remarkable price-to-performance ratio of its predecessor. With that said, the upcoming Nexus 7 allegedly going to be built by Huawei will be the third in the lineup.

However, it seems that Google has stopped dishing out low-cost Nexus devices with decent specs, as can be seen in the $499 and $549 price tags for the Nexus 6P's 32 GB and 64 GB models. On top of that, the Google Nexus 9 by HTC starts from $399 up to $599.

It would be interesting to see whether or not Google will introduce the purported Huawei-made Nexus 7 at an economical price like the company did for the first two tablets. As for a release date, the tablet could possibly make its debut at the Google I/O 2016 this June or May.

Huawei is more than capable of delivering a powerful tablet. It has been proven by the manufacturer's latest X2 that sports a 7-inch display with a 1,200 x 1,920 resolution, a Huawei Kirin 930 SoC and up to 2 to 3 GB worth of RAM.

This goes without saying, but take the news with the customary grain of salt, as this is only a rumor that surfaced on Weibo.
