"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is coming out in a few short weeks, and as expected, companies are riding the hype leading up to the film's debut.
It's been difficult to miss the teasers floating around online, and it's even more difficult to stay away from merchandise inspired by the films. Now, it seems the Force has gotten particularly strong with Verizon.

No, it's not a BB-8 or RD-D2 themed phone. That's been said and done one too many times. In fact, Verizon has even partnered with another tech giant to market themselves with the biggest movie in 2015. Verizon, along with Google, will be offering "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Google Cardboard viewers for free beginning Dec. 2 until, of course, supplies last.
Yes, these Verizon-Google Cardboard viewers do come in BB-8 and R2-D2 versions but in Kyle Ren and Stormtrooper variations, too. For the uninitiated, Google Cardboard is a super cheap, do-it-yourself virtual reality headset made of cardboard that can be used to view and experience virtual reality content.
Will there be special "Star Wars" virtual reality content made just for this Stars Wars-Verizon-Google partnership? Hopefully, this will come into being, but we won't hold our breath. If anything, however, Verizon has promised that there will be some kind of Star Wars themed VR experience with "The Force Awakens" missions held inside Verizon stores.
Speaking of only Verizon stores, as with all other exclusive partnerships, this offer is available to only Verizon customers at the carrier's stores while supplies last. Nonetheless, the best part out of all this is that the Star Wars-themed Google Cardboard viewers are free. Customers don't have to buy a new phone or renew or extend their Verizon subscriptions to get these hot ticket items. They simply walk into the store and pick one up.
