As part of celebrating PlayStation's 20th anniversary, Sony announced eight PlayStation 2 games that are now also playable on PlayStation 4 consoles.

Much adored PS 2 classics such as Dark Cloud, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Rogue Galaxy and The Mark of Kri are available for $14.99 each. While, Twisted Metal: Black and War of the Monsters are $9.99 each.

Gamers can purchase these PS2 titles directly from the PlayStation Store in Europe and in the Americas.

"Having these titles available on PS4 is already incredibly exciting for us, but we did not stop there," per Sony. "Also, you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before -- in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game."

Other favorites such as The King of Fighters 2000 and PaRappa the Rapper 2 will be added at a later date.

All the PS2 classics available for PS4 will also get Trophy support. Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony's Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., says that the Trophy set for each game has been developed after considering feedback from the original creators of the game.

The games will also support PS4 features such as remote play, live broadcast, share play, active feeds and second screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.

There is also a video trailer showing some PS2 games running high-definition on a PS4. However, at the end of the video, a message appears that may disappoint many gamers.

"PS2 Classics and PS2-formatted discs are incompatible with the PS4 system," per the message at the end of the video trailer.

The message means that gamers will not be able to insert a PS2 game disc in the PS4. Customers will have to buy a PS4 compatible disc to play the PS2 game on PS4. On the other hand, Microsoft is planning to make all its Xbox 360 game discs to work with the latest Xbox One for free.
