We all know that the soon-to-film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will draw into the character of Star-Lord's father. However, a report has hinted at another tidbit about the much-awaited sequel.

According to the report, sources made up of different individuals who are familiar with the movie's casting process have confirmed that director James Gunn has chosen Kurt Russell to play Chris Pratt's father in the Marvel sequel.

While Russell has not yet read the script and no official announcements from Marvel have been made, meetings are expected to take place between the two parties in the near future. Russell, as well as Marvel's representatives, also declined to comment on the alleged casting decision, says the report.

This isn't the first speculation surrounding "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Around a month ago rumors about the identity of Star-Lord's father began to circulate. Gunn, however, quickly debunked the rumor and referred to it as "completely false."

If the report about Russell joining the cast holds true, he won't be the only newbie to the set. Pom Klementieff is the most recent addition to the cast, and will most likely play the role of Mantis. Klementieff emerged as Gunn's choice, following several rounds of chemistry reads. Repped by Untitled, the role serves as Klementieff's big break. She has mostly worked in France and appeared in Spike Lee's remake of "Oldboy," her foray into the world of American and English-language movies.

The year has also been strong for Russell, with his movies "The Hateful Eight," "Furious 7" and the acclaimed horror Western "Bone Tomahawk." Moreover, he plays a key role alongside Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg's "Deepwater Horizon."

As for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," Pratt will be reunited with returning co-stars Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

Production should commence early 2016, while the sequel is slated to be released on May 5, 2017.
