The Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 was first announced and introduced back in November as a less expensive version of the original Shield Tablet. This one only had minor differences, so it is still a gaming machine at heart.

The device was released with Android 5.1 Lollipop as the core operating system, but it didn't take very long for Nvidia to announce plans to update the hardware with Android 6.0, Marshmallow.

The company released an official video of the operating system running on the Shield Tablet K1, and from what we can tell, it looks great. The company made clear to state that the update will be ready by the end of the year, and it does look up to snuff so far.

According to Nvidia's Digital Marketing Senior Manager, Wil O'Neal, the tablet will be one of the first tablet devices to have Marshmallow installed.

One of the new features includes Now on Tap, a more advanced version of Google Now. There's also improved microSD card support and a new permission system for apps. Furthermore, there's an improved camera app that is powered by Nvidia's Tegra K1 chipset. Folks who bought the Shield Tablet K1 for gaming should rejoice for the addition of GeForce Now optimizations.

The Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 alongside the original is probably the most gaming focused tablet available on the market today. Not even the Apple iPad comes close, and that's no doubt a solid tablet for the gaming faithful.

The Marshmallow 6.0 operating system update is expected to come this December, but there is no mention of the exact date. For now, Nvidia released this sneak preview, giving users the ability to see what it has in store for the Shield Tablet K1.
