Aside from Kirin 950, Huawei said it is developing its very own GPU and flash memory, which are presumably going to be as impressive as the Kirin 950, according to recently surfaced reports.

Back in November, the Kirin 950's benchmark results blew Samsung's Exynos 7420 out of the water, revealing a whopping 1,710 points in single-core performance and an impressive 6,245 points in multi-core performance. As a result, the Huawei Mate 8 has been considered as one of the powerhouses in the smartphone industry.

At first glance, the development (translated) seems to be a page out of Samsung's and Apple's playbooks. Samsung is reportedly working on its own brand of GPU, a project that had been delayed for five years. Meanwhile, Apple is purportedly building its own GPU too to sever ties with Imagination Technologies.

Just like Samsung and its Tizen OS, Huawei is also believed to be planning on releasing the Kirin OS in the foreseeable future so that the company won't have to completely rely on Google's Android OS.

Moving forward, it's probably a safe bet to assume that Huawei has set its eyes on a bigger picture. Having its own line of GPUs would mean that the company will be able to produce components that are better suited to the Kirin SoC.

On the other hand, Huawei is rumored to be looking for a partnership with companies such as Samsung, Micron or SK Hynix to get its flash memory chips off the ground and into stable production.

The reports, however, don't specify an exact release date when we'll get to see the Kirin OS, a Huawei GPU or a Huawei flash memory chip. At any rate, they'll probably see the light of day in due time, that is, assuming that the company's plans push through.

It's also worth mentioning that the Huawei P9 is expected to roll out in March 2016, but the time frame is probably not enough for the upcoming handset to sport the in-house components.
