At this point, it's safe to say that the last console generation is officially over. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have moved on to bigger and better things: namely, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U respectively. Sure, a few games will hit the older machines every once in a while, but they're mostly just ugly shells compared to their next-gen counterparts.

Take Call of Duty: Black Ops III for example: while the game plays well and looks fantastic on newer machines, the last-gen ports are mere husks in comparison. It's not just aesthetics, either: the entire Black Ops III single-player campaign was nixed in favor of getting the game to run on older hardware. In a lot of ways, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Black Ops III are just one half of the actual game.

Unfortunately, it's not going to get any better, either: in addition to the missing story mode, Activision has confirmed that the first Black Ops III DLC pack, Awakening, will not make its way to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360...ever.

For the most part, Awakening is your standard Call of Duty DLC pack: it comes with four new competitive maps and a new Zombies campaign, all bundled together for $15.

At least, that's what next-gen console owners will be getting. For anyone who's still playing on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, there's no telling whether or not Activision will release any additional content. Considering the fact that the publisher is already skipping over the first batch of DLC on last-gen systems, it stands to reason that the same thing will happen to future DLC packs as well. Players don't even have the option to buy the game's Season Pass on the PS3 or Xbox 360 at all - long story short, things aren't looking good for last-gen gamers.

For PlayStation 4 owners, expect to see Black Ops III: Awakening hit on Feb. 2, 2016, while the Xbox One and PC launch will follow sometime after that.
