All Asus smartphones will now come with AdBlock Plus, which will automatically be switched on from the get-go, unlike before, which prompted users to download their own adblocking app for the Android phone's browser. The adblock inclusion makes Asus the first computer hardware and electronics company to provide adblocking software for their customers.

The inclusion of the default app was done in collaboration with AdBlock, which also signaled a strategy that other mobile companies might try in the future, if the move proves to be a success.

"We're extremely happy to team up with Asus, the first major hardware manufacturer to integrate ad blocking into their mobile devices," said AdBlock CEO and co-founder Till Faida in a press release sent to Motherboard. "This is another call for innovation in the ad industry — a call getting louder by the day."

As Engadget pointed out, the impact might not be as large as the company hopes, with its users numbered around 15 million versus companies like Apple. Then again, the annoying nature of pop-up ads and other sources of online marketing revenue might be enough to break the chain.
