Anyone worried about the quality of Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange movie probably let out a sigh of relief when Entertainment Weekly revealed its latest cover. Benedict Cumberbatch looks great in-costume, and the attention to detail looks amazing...but even so, it's just one photo. Regardless of how great the costume and makeup look, there's only so much information one can glean from a single picture.

Thankfully, that first photo was one of many. More pictures of Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange have made their way online, and while they don't necessarily reveal much about the plot itself, the photos should give fans a better idea of where Marvel is going with the film's visual effects.

From the looks of things, Marvel isn't interested in recreating the cleaner look of its mainline Marvel movies: if the concept art is anything like the final film, Doctor Strange won't look like any other Marvel project to date. For example, the trailer for Captain America: Civil War was all high-contrast shots and gritty action sequences, but the concept art for Doctor Strange looks downright psychodelic:

From Marvel producer Kevin Feige:

"When this comic appeared in the early '60s, it really informed, in a way that is pretty amazing, a lot of the psychedelic '60s as we know it. I don't know that they were doing anything weird in the bullpen in Marvel, but certainly the stuff they were doing inspired all those people who were doing mind-expansion experiments at the time. So, that's inherent to the property. And that's our mission statement for the visual effects on this movie."

Something as bizarre as Doctor Strange may not seem like it's summer blockbuster material, but neither did Guardians of the Galaxy - before that film hit theaters, many thought that a sci-fi epic based on a dated comic from the '70s would be Marvel's first big flop. Of course, Guardians became the biggest hit of 2014 - with any luck, Marvel will have similar success with Doctor Strange.

Either way, there's no denying that Cumberbatch looks good in the robe...

Doctor Strange is set to debut on Nov. 4, 2016.
