New details regarding Apple's next-generation iPhone 7 Plus have hit the Web. The 5.5-inch phablet will reportedly ship with a larger 3,100 mAh battery and top out at 256 GB of internal storage to differentiate the handset from the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 when it goes on sale in the fall.

You can expect to be inundated with reports of unannounced and highly-anticipated smartphones now that we've entered 2016. Two of the biggest players in the smartphone arena, Samsung and Apple, are both gearing up to battle for smartphone supremacy with "7" series devices.

Samsung is rumored to unveil four new smartphones and phablets that will make up its 2016 flagship Galaxy S7 series at an event scheduled for Feb. 21. We recently reported that schematics for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge leaked, which revealed images that provided a look at the tweaked design, dimensions and larger displays compared with last year's Galaxy S6.

The company is also expected to unveil larger "Plus" variants of both devices, and a recent report claimed Samsung is planning to pack in a small tablet-sized six-inch display for the Galaxy S7 Plus. It's unclear whether the Galaxy S7 Edge will feature the same display size or use a 5.7-inch screen like the one found on the Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Meanwhile, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the fall, which will reportedly feature a new design that will be so thin that the company will drop the standard 3.5 mm headphone port.

According to a new report from MyDrivers, which has accurately reported previous iPhone specs and features, Apple is planning on including a larger 3,100 mAh battery and 256 GB internal storage option for the iPhone 7 Plus to differentiate the phablet from the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 7.

If the report is to be believed, the iPhone 7 Plus' larger 3,100 mAh battery will be about 12.7 percent larger than the iPhone 6s Plus' 2,750 mAh battery, and the 256 GB storage option would make the 7 Plus one of the only smartphones on the market to ship that large an amount of internal storage.
