Oh, this is smart. Griffin's taken the initiative to bring the trusty old MagSafe back to the latest generation of MacBooks, which dropped the safety technology in favor of the soon-to-be ubiquitous USB-C standard.

The accessory maker's BreakSafe delivers the best of both worlds, with a two-piece brushed metal adapter that snaps together magnetically, and, like the MagSafe magnetically-attached power connectors, breaks apart when yanked, so tripping over the thing doesn't send you — or your computer — sailing.

The plug works like a charm, and looks pretty nice, as far as computer plugs go, matching the metal and black aesthetic that has long colored the MacBook line. There's a charging light on the plug, to let you know how close the battery is to full, and, like both the MagSafe and USB-C, the plug is reversible.

The BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Power Cable runs a reasonable $40. It's currently listed on Griffin's site as "coming soon."
