DC and Warner Bros. are the first to blink in the battle for the May 6, 2016 spot. Marvel was the first to announce that it would release a movie on the date, though the studio did not clarify which one if its properties it plans to launch on that day.

After DC came along and announced that it plans to launch Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on the same day, it was then that Marvel made it known that the mystery movie it planned for May 6, 2016, is actually Captain America 3.

The new date for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, according to Warner Bros. and DC Comics, is March 25, 2016, which is over a month before Marvel releases Captain America 3. The reason for moving up the date could have much to with the losses Warner would have attracted if it went up against Marvel on the same day.

While the changing of date is very important, it is not the most intriguing aspect of Warner and DC's announcement. The company plans to release 9 additional movies through to the year 2020, which should include The Justice League and a possible Shazam standalone movie.

Warner has also made sure to secure the dates to keep Marvel at bay. The following are the release dates for the 9 superhero films that could boost DC to success in the movie business, or completely destroy it and its properties.

  • August 8, 2016 - Untitled DC Film
  • June 23, 2017 - Untitled DC Film
  • November 17, 2017 - Untitled DC Film
  • March 23, 2018 - Untitled DC Film
  • July 27, 2018 - Untitled DC Film
  • November 16, 2018 - Untitled "Event" Film
  • April 5, 2019 - Untitled DC Film
  • June 14, 2019 - Untitled DC Film
  • April 3, 2020 - Untitled DC Film
  • June 19, 2020 - Untitled DC Film
  • November 20, 2020 - Untitled "Event" Film

With Marvel on a roll for the past 6 years, DC will have a difficult time to catch up. It is safe to say that DC had its chance to be ahead of Marvel, but it chose to focus on standalone movies and Batman mostly, instead of bringing its whole universe to the big screen.

There's a high possibility that DC may never catch up to Marvel, and fans should learn to accept this from now.
