Outside of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series, the LEGO franchise has been the preeminent source for comic book action in a video game since the last console generation.

Starting with LEGO Batman: The Video Game in 2008 all the way through LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, these games have only gotten bigger and better over the years, filling the gap where so many other AAA comic book titles have failed.

Now, LEGO is returning to the Marvel Universe with LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, which puts players back in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring levels inspired by The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

But the world of Marvel is much bigger than just the movies, so TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive also populated the game with comic book characters that have yet to make the jump to the silver screen, as well as a few bonuses just for the game … like Stan Lee in Iron Man armor (mustache and all!). With more than 100 playable characters available, this is like a living (somewhat blocky) encyclopedia to the Marvel Universe.

WB Interactive provided us with some high-resolution screenshots of the game to get a better sense of some of the film moments you can recreate, as well as wholly unique characters you won't find at your local movie theater.
