After strong anticipation, Sony announced Thursday that its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, will be available in the United States. Their release, which will be available unlocked on February 7, mark the company's first smartphone to be sold in the U.S. since its Z3 model, as part of its Z line.

The Z5 is powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor, three GB of RAM and a 2,900 mAH battery, which gives off two days of use on a single charge.

The flip side of its 5.2-inch screen, which includes an embedded quick fingerprint reader, boasts a powerful 23-megapixel rear-facing camera.

The Verge warns that the back of the Xperia Z5 is blanketed in frosted glass, meaning dropping the smartphone could result in it breaking. On the bright side, it's waterproof down to the camera's sensor — something that many smartphones in the market do not offer.

The Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will retail for $599.99 and $499.99, respectively, upon their U.S. releases. The 4K-equipped Xperia Z5 Premium could follow, according to reports.

But for now, people are about to find out whether the Z5 and Z5 Compact were worth the wait in the U.S.
