Fujifilm announced a new lightweight, yet durable point-and-shoot camera aimed at those who enjoy the outdoors on Friday.

The FinePix XP90 is similar to the company's previous model, the XP80, but includes some upgrades and new features. The camera weighs in at 230g (just over 8 ounces) with a compact and lightweight body, is waterproof in up to 50 feet of water, is dustproof, and will still work in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenhiet. This makes it a great option for those who are looking to capture memories when they are skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking and during other outdoor activities.

Fujifilm's FinePix XP90 can also withstand a drop of up to 5.8 feet, and has a double-locking mechanism that prevents the battery and memory card compartment from opening when there is an accidental slip of the hand. But to make sure slips don't happen, the camera features a front grip and a thumb rest for handling.

The XP90 is equipped with a 5x optical zoom lens and a 28-mm wide-angle setting, which is perfect for capturing the landscape when on a mountain top.

Inside is a powerful 1/2.3-inch 16.4 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor with the ability to capture images at 10 fps at full resolution. It can also capture at 60 fps at 2 megapixels. The XP90 has a dedicated continuous shooting button on the back to access these features easily. The camera also features Optical Image Stabilization so that images are not blurry when taking action shots.

The user can also use the Interval Time to set up the camera to snap photos at intervals of 15, 10, 30 and 60 seconds, as well as at 5 and 10 minutes. Fujifilm's latest model also has a Time-Lapse Video function with the ability to record in full HD at 10 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps, as well as HD movie 1920 x 1080 capabilities with Scene Recognition that optimizes focus and shutter speeds, and filters to add cool effects, along with other in-camera editing functions. There is also a Wind Filter setting for noise reduction.

On the body of the camera is a 3.0-inch 920K for HD LCD monitor that has an anti-reflective coating and automatically adjusts according to light levels so that the shooter can still see their images clearly in bright light or underwater.

The FinePix XP90 features wireless connectivity with the user's smartphone, and has 11 advanced filters that include Soft Focus, Pop Color, Cross Screen, Fish-Eye and Toy Camera effects. The camera also has HDR capture and a Motion Panorama 360-degree function to create beautiful panoramic photos with the touch of a button.

Fujifilm's FinePix XP90 retails for $230 and comes in yellow/black, blue/black, black/green and black/orange options when it becomes available in February.
