Fujifilm announced the launch of the latest model in its compact X-Series lineup, the X70, which takes after the X100 with some upgrades.

The X70 has a design similar to that of the X100T, but features a smaller and thinner body to weigh approximately 340 grams. The top-plate of its body, aperture and focusing dials are made from milled aluminum to make the camera lightweight.

The top-plate features shutter speed dials, eight Fn customizable buttons, and the aperture can be adjusted by 1/3 stop increments. There is also an Auto Mode Switch lever when the shooter wants to switch from manual to automatic Advanced SR Auto mode.

Fujifilm's X70 is equipped with a high-speed APS-C sized X-Trans CMOS II sensor that starts the camera up in 0.5 seconds and has a shooting interval of 0.01 seconds. Its EXR Processor II image processing engine features Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) image-processing technology that will correct defects to increase sharpness and create a realistic 3D effect.

The camera has the new Fujinon 18.5 mm F2.8 wide-angle lens that can shoot landscapes and snapshots. Because of the focal length, the lens is able to distribute light evenly across the frame for high-resolution images, and Fujinon's HT-EBC coating can control flare and ghosting. The lens barrel also has a control ring that the user can assign functions to, including ISO sensitivity, Film Simulation, white balance and continuous shooting.

The camera's electronic shutter has the capability of exposures of 1/32,000 seconds for shallow depth of field.

The X70 is also the first X-Series camera to feature a three-inch touchscreen LCD monitor with 1.04 million dots and has a wide-viewing angle tilting screen of 180 degrees, great for getting a child's view or high-angle crowd shot. When the user enters the Touch Panel Settings, they can access Touch Shot for selfies and Focus Area Selection features while shooting. The touchscreen also features smartphone-style operations like swipe, drag, pinch in and out and double-tapping for scaling during the playback mode.

Fujifilm's X70 can shoot 60 fps Full HD movies, with six types of scene recognition functions available, and has built-in Wi-Fi for shooting from the user's smartphone.

The camera also features the Classic Chrome Film Simulation mode for deep colors, and 10 other modes, including color negative film and monochrome filters, as well Advanced Filter functions like Dynamic Tone, Soft Focus and Toy Camera. There is also a Multiple Exposure feature that combines two separate subjects into the same image and Focus Peaking, which highlights one part of a scene.

Fujifilm also announced accessories for the X70, including a leather case, lens hood, external optical viewfinder and wide conversion lens.

Fujifilm's X70 retails for $699.95 when it becomes available in February.
