Warner Bros. may be pushing its upcoming Batman v. Superman as the beginning of its connected DC Comics universe, but it's Suicide Squad that might be its most intriguing adaptation on the schedule.

Focusing on a group of villains that are forced to unite under government supervision, Suicide Squad sees the cinematic debut of some classic DC baddies, including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Of course, no trip through the DC rogues gallery would be complete without an appearance by the most recognizable lunatic of them all, The Joker, who will now be played by Jared Leto.

Last night, during a DC Comics movie special on The CW, Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for Suicide Squad, which highlights the movie's sardonic tone, brash personalities and punk rock flavor. The footage goes a long way toward distancing the film from the operatic scope of Batman v. Superman, despite being placed in the same universe and actually featuring a cameo from the Dark Knight himself. And just to prove that director David Ayer isn't taking this material quite as deadly serious as Zack Snyder is, the trailer is cut to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Somehow, it kinda works, though.
