File this one under: world records it never occurred to you might exist. But here it is, all we're all the better for knowing about it. After all, in a world edging toward near drone ubiquity, we'll almost certainly be asking our unmanned aerial vehicles to do a lot of heavy lifting for us, both figuratively and metaphorically.

Between proposed Amazon drone deliveries and passenger UAVs, this monster drone comprised of eight hexacopters surely signals the beginning of heavy duty drones to come, nabbing the Guinness World Records title for Heaviest payload lifted by a remote-controlled multicopter by holding a 134-pound payload in the air for 37 seconds.

The ratkingcopter (that's "Megacopter" to you) was created by drone designer Henning Pedersen and engineers at the University of Oslo, securing the record at the Norwegian city's Science Park.

In order to qualify, the uber-rotor had to hold the weight aloft higher than a meter for longer than 30 seconds. Guinness has official video of the undertaking, as is its wont.
