The Sony Xperia M5 first debuted in September 2015, and it is now available in Europe. Users from key markets in Europe can now preorder the Xperia M5 mid-range handset from Sony and expect the delivery to begin on Feb. 8.
Initially, the device was confirmed to be available in the Netherlands and Poland. The list now adds the UK, made possible through Carphone Warehouse.
Carphone Warehouse confirmed the handset's preorder phase and said that customers can choose from three color options for their devices: black, white or gold. The gold version is exclusive to Carphone Warehouse.
Sony touts the Xperia M5 as being equipped with an impressive 13 MP front camera, one of the company's best front-facing cameras that it has ever built on a device. The camera, which is 8 MP higher than the older version, is perfect for users who have a knack for taking selfies.
"Sometimes you only get one chance to get the perfect shot," said Sony. "That's why the Xperia M5 is packed full of technology to help you capture the moment as it happens. Shoot like a pro with 0.25-second Hybrid Autofocus, 21.5 megapixels and super-sharp zoom."
"With a 13 MP front-facing camera, sharp autofocus and HDR mode, this is the only smartphone for selfies," notes Sony.
Other highlights of the device include a 21.5 MP main camera, a 5-inch display with 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution, 3 GB of RAM, a Helio X10 64-bit octa-core chip by MediaTek, 16 GB of internal storage and a slot for a microSD card. The Xperia M5 runs Android 5.0 out of the box.
The Xperia M5 also boasts a massive 2,600 mAh battery, which allows the device to last up to two days even with continued use.
The Xperia M5 is also one of the several handsets from Sony that are getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade. While details on the exact release date are scarce, the upgrade is said to launch in the first quarter of 2016.
Customers in Europe who choose mobile network operator EE can get the Sony Xperia M5 on pay monthly two-year contracts. Prices start at £14.99 (around $21) per month and £130 (around $185) upfront payment. For Vodafone customers, it's £22 (around $31) per month with no upfront payment. There is currently no pay-as-you-go or SIM-free option.
