One of the world's most popular messaging apps WhatsApp has gone down in multiple countries, causing users worldwide to panic on social media.

To emphasize on the magnitude of affected individuals, the messaging app caters to over 900 million users across the globe. The first report regarding the downtime came at around 9:15 p.m. EST or 2:15 a.m. GMT.

As expected, the affected users took things to social media to express their opinions, particularly on Twitter. The posts range from comedic takes on the situation to purely angry ones.

Back in February 2014, Facebook acquired the messaging app for a whopping $19 billion. As a result, some even took shots at Mark Zuckerberg – well, not seriously, at least.

Of course, as the coverage is on a global scale, not all posts are in English.

Some users are even encouraging others to switch to a different messaging app.

Apparently, WhatsApp went back up after an hour or so, but it was too late, as the immense damage has already been done.

For the record, this isn't the first time that WhatsApp went offline. Right before January arrived, the messaging app came across a problem on New Year's Eve. It was caused by a Web disruption, and despite having stable Internet connections, users were met with the error message that said "WhatsApp Web requires a working Internet connection, which you don't have at the moment."

The Facebook-owned app isn't doing so well lately, as it has been facing a slew of various errors. But to end things on a positive note, the WhatsApp Android update back in December came with a big assortment of new emojis to tinker with.

With such a massive user base, buttery smooth service is necessary for the app. Otherwise, it'll incur the wrath of the online social media mob.
