In what appears to be a move motivated by Apple's upcoming 4-inch iPhone 5se, Google has cut the price of its Nexus 5X. The smartphone is now available at $299 for the 16 GB variant and $349 for the 32 GB variant on the Google Store.

Apple just had its earnings call for its first fiscal quarter of 2016 and reported record results of $18.4 billion profit and 74.8 million iPhones sold and Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that iPhone sales will likely decline for the first time ever in the March quarter. One way to soften that blow will be the introduction of a rumored new 4-inch iPhone.

We recently reported that images of the iPhone 5se have leaked and confirm Apple will launch its first 4-inch iPhone since the iPhone 5s was released in 2013. In what appears to be a response to the impending iPhone 5se launch, Google has cut the price of its Nexus 5X.

Google updated the Google Store today and on the Nexus 5X's page posted a new message saying, "Save $50 on Nexus 5X, was starting at $349, now starting at $299."

The Nexus 5X features a 5.2-inch 1,920 x 1,080 Full HD Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display with a pixel density of 423ppi and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. The handset includes 2 GB of RAM and is available with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage. The device runs the latest version of Android, 6.0 Marshmallow and since it's a Nexus, it receives all software updates directly from Google.

The Nexus 5X's camera capabilities consist of a 12.3-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for video chat and selfies. The handset also includes a fingerprint scanner for security and authorizing payments and a large 2,700 mAh battery that will provide up to 20 hours of talk time and 420 hours of standby time.

The Nexus 5X is available in three color options: Carbon, Quartz, and Ice. The 16 GB model is priced at $299, while the 32 GB is $349.
