Bloomberg Billionaires Index reveals that Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now the sixth richest person in the world with a net worth of $47.5 billion.

Zuckerberg's net worth increased by $4.85 billion after Facebook announced strong Q4 2015 financial results on Wednesday, which resulted in the company's stock to climb 12 percent in the after-hours of trading.

"2015 was a great year for Facebook. Our community continued to grow and our business is thriving," says Zuckerberg. "We continue to invest in better serving our community, building our business and connecting the world."

The company's financial report has confirmed that sales in Q4 2015 was up 52 percent to $5.84 billion and net income increased, reaching $1.56 billion from a year earlier. Over 1.59 billion users log in to Facebook each month.

The increased net worth of Zuckerberg puts him $2.5 billion ahead of Larry Ellison, Oracle's chairman who has a net worth of $43.6 billion. Zuckerberg's worth has also surpassed $45.9 billion holding of the Koch brothers.

With a net worth of $78 billion, co-foudner of Microsoft Bill Gates is at the top position followed by Spanish fashion businessman Amancio Ortega, whose net worth is $69.7 billion. American business magnate Warren Buffett's net worth is $59.4 billion, which puts him at the third position.

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of e-commerce company Amazon, is the fourth richest person while Carlos Slim, a Mexican businessman who is often known as the Warren Buffett of Mexico, is the fifth wealthiest person in the world.

Zuckerberg is one of only seven billionaires and among the 100 wealthiest people on the planet to see an increase of net worth this year.

At 31 years, Zuckerberg is the youngest of the 10 richest people on Earth. In September 2015, Forbes released its annual Forbes 400 List and Zuckerberg was one of the 10 wealthiest people in the U.S. for the first time. Now, the CEO of the world's biggest social networking company is now the fourth richest person in the U.S.

Zuckerberg's first appearance on Forbes' ranking of the 400 wealthiest people in the U.S. was in 2009, when his net worth was estimated at $2 billion.

Zuckerberg says he will give a major chunk of his fortune to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which is a private limited liability company (LLC) that Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan announced in December 2015 following the birth of their daughter Maxima Zuckerberg.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative will target human potential advancement and also promote equality in areas such as energy, scientific research, health and education.
