Ubisoft isn't saying how right now, but it has made clear its intent to solve an issue that opens the door for the multiplayer component of Tom Clancy's The Division to be about as lawless as the innards of a quarantine zone in the middle of a once proud city.

On the PC version of The Division, player stats are saved client side instead of on the server side. And with those files within reach of players, the malicious kind of modding, hacking, has been rampant during the game's closed beta period.

Players have been modifying their characters' stats so that they have perks like infinite ammo, zero recoil, stupid-fast speed, invisibility and more. A Redditor detailed an encounter with one of The Division's super heroes.

"There was some major cheating going on in the dark zone earlier today," says the redditor. "There was a player teleporting around, aimbotting and shooting through buildings. I had a really really fun time with this game during the beta, I sure hope there will be some anti-cheat mechanisms in place."

After talking up the "unprecedented level of interest" in The Division's closed beta and promising to carefully digest feedback, Ubisoft affirmed that it intends to patch the vulnerability before the game launches next month.

"We are aware of the cheating issues in the Closed Beta on PC," says Ubisoft. "The team is fully committed to providing solutions against this and a system will be in place to ensure a fair experience for players when the game is released on March 8."

The Division went into closed beta on PC on Jan. 29 at the same time it opened up on PlayStation 4, which was a day later than the Xbox One. Ubisoft recently extended the closed beta for 24 hours, bringing it to close on Tuesday instead of Monday.

There's still plenty of time for Ubisoft to fix the issue before the game launches. Hopefully, whatever fix it comes up with doesn't break something that is currently unbroken.
