If you have not gotten your fill of nostalgia from this summer's "Transformers: Age of Extinction" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," have no fear. The "Power Rangers" reboot is just around the corner.

Lionsgate announced that the "Power Rangers" reboot will be released on July 22, 2016. That is less than two years from now, you guys! Commence arguing over who is the best Ranger now. (Pink, obviously.)

"Power Rangers" will have some stiff competition at the box office that weekend. Guy Ritchie's "King Arthur" is also set to open that day. "Power Rangers" will also premiere less than two months after the second installment of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." You know you've always wanted to see these two crime-fighting groups go at it, anyway.

So far, all we know about the plot of the film is that the basic premise of the "Power Rangers" franchise will be in tact. That basically means we know nothing, but in case you need a refresher, the movie will follow a group of high school kids that suddenly get some out-of-this-world powers and have to protect the world from evil. Oh, and the film has gotten rid of the "Mighty Morphin'" part of its name. It's true what they say. You really can't go home again.

However, we do know that some Hollywood heavyweights have signed on to get this reboot off the ground. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who penned the screenplays for "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" will be writing the "Power Rangers" movie. Roberto Orci, one of the screenwriters behind the "Transformers" and "Star Trek" reboots, will serve as executive producer.

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" first debuted in 1993 as part of the Fox Kids schedule of programming. Through the years, the "Power Rangers" had several incarnations on TV, in space, in the jungle, even as ninjas. The latest installment, "Power Rangers Super Megaforce," is currently airing on Nickelodeon. However, 1995's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" will always have a special place in our hearts. "You ooze, you lose." Never forget.

If the recent reboots of our favorite cartoons from the 1980s and 1990s are any indication, the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie will look very, very different. There will probably be better special effects, more sinister villains and a grittier tone to it overall. Let's just hope that they don't change the awesomely tacky costumes too much. If the "Power Rangers" look too good, you're doing it wrong.
