Pokémon TV, which is the official online streaming home for the Pokémon franchise, is now streaming the original Pokémon movie for free.

The move to stream Pokémon: The First Movie for free comes as part of the company’s greater 20th anniversary celebration of the 1996 release of the Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video game in Japan. It's also re-released the 1998 movie for purchase for the first time in many years.

Pokémon: The First Movie follows the plight of Mewtwo, the legendary cloned Pokémon, as he escapes confinement and grapples with his own existence before cloning a whole bunch of Pokémon himself. Ash, Misty, Pikachu and the rest of the gang get caught up in all this — and there’s a rather emotional end to the whole thing where … well, it’s worth a watch even now just to get to that point.

There’s no telling just how long Pokémon TV will keep the movie streaming for free, but it likely won’t be there forever. For anyone wondering whether the movie holds up, it’s probably a good idea to check it out sooner rather than later.
