Smartphone makers such as LG, Samsung and more are planning to showcase their first flagship mobile phones of 2016 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. However, HTC will skip the party and will launch its next flagship smartphone at a later date and will the device will not be called One M10.

Rumors of the HTC One M10, codenamed Perfume, have been doing the rounds for many months but the Taiwanese company is yet to confirm the launch date of its next-gen handset. HTC launched the One M9 at the 2015 MWC, which led to the speculation that its successor will make its appearance at this year's MWC.

However, Spanish publication 4GNews cites sources familiar with the matter and reports that HTC is diverting from the expected time line and will launch its next flagship at an event in London on April 11.

A previous ITHome report claimed that HTC wanted to reveal its next-generation smartphone during the 2016 MWC but had to push the launch date to April due to design and crafting issues.

The 4GNews report also claims that the upcoming flagship smartphone will not be called One M10 as what previous rumors claimed.

HTC was criticized by experts for not differentiating the One M8 and One M9 enough, which also led to lesser than expected sales. It will make sense for HTC to rebrand its next-generation flagship phones with a new name and top-end specs that will attract more customers.

HTC's next flagship smartphone is speculated to have a 5.1-inch AMOLED screen with a display resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Some rumors also point out that the flagship phone will have two variants depending on the region it is released.

The U.S. and European versions of HTC handset are expected to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM. However, the smartphone released in other regions will get a MediaTek chipset.

The HTC phone is expected to get 32 GB of internal storage, which is identical to what the One M8 and One M9 offered. The device will also include a microSD card slot, which would help owners to expand the memory.

It is highly likely that the next HTC flagship smartphone will come running on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system to be at par with rivals.

HTC has not confirmed a name, launch date or specs of its next flagship handset, which means customers should take all rumors regarding the device with a pinch of salt.
