T-Mobile has announced that its subscribers can now receive MMS via Google Voice.

The carrier has become the second in the U.S. to allow MMS to be send to Google Voice users as previously this function was available only to Sprint customers. Subscribers on other big networks in the U.S. such as AT&T and Verizon are expected to get the latest feature up and running as soon as possible.

"We're happy to announce this week another step towards improving MMS support for Google Voice. T-Mobile has allowed MMS messages from their users to be sent to Google Voice users. Similar to MMS messages from Sprint users, these messages will appear in Gmail, and you can be notified of the message via SMS. We continue to work with other carriers to broaden support for messaging and bring MMS to Hangouts. More good things are coming!" said Alex Wiesen, a Google employee on his Google+ account.

Nikhyl Singhal, a Google product manager, confirmed on his Google Plus account on November 1 the roll out of a new version of Google+ Hangouts app for Android. The latest Google+ Hangouts app brings support for text messages (both SMS and MMS) with Google Voice; however, it was only supported on Sprint. Singhal also indicated that many users in the U.S. as well as other countries have requested for Google Voice to support MMS, and Google has also been working to offer the function, but the company needed to collaborate with the carriers.

"We hear you loud and clear: you want Google Voice phone numbers outside the US and to support MMS. We are listening and working hard to make this happen, but we need to work with carriers and this can take some time," said Singhal on his Google+ account.

It will be interesting to see how swiftly Google is able to bring support for MMS via Google Voice to other carriers in the U.S. and outside the country to other regions.
