The Powerpuff Girls is set to return to Cartoon Network in April in a brand-new show, and what would a new show be without a new theme song?

Cartoon Network has just released a new Powerpuff Girls music video titled "Who's Got the Power," and it's a rock anthem that is channeling some serious girl power. It starts off familiarly enough, as the classic narrator from the original show tells the origin story of the three super-powered girls made of "sugar, spice and everything nice." Oh, and a splash of chemical X, of course.

From there the song blasts off into a punk-rock anthem that moves along at a fast pace and asks the question "Who's got the power?" before following with "We've got the power!" It even features descriptions of each of the three heroes. "Blossom: the leader, always shows the way. Bubbles: she's bright as a sunny day. Buttercup: working hardcore, with a mighty roar."

Here is the official video description from Cartoon Network:

"Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, the original arbiters of girl power, are back on Cartoon Network! The Powerpuff Girls, the beloved global phenomenon, will return this spring with a brand-new, re-imagined series about three girls juggling school and saving the world before bedtime."

It's unclear if this new song will be the show's official theme, but we wouldn't be surprised. It has everything the show needs in a opening sequence: catchy theme song, origin story, description of the characters. It's all there in the opening, letting the new show kick off without the need to explain the backstory or history of the characters. After all, more than a few watching the show will likely remember the old series, though Cartoon Network is hoping to create brand-new fans as well.

Fans got their first look at the new show in a clip last week, which saw Buttercup battling against a Lumberjack-esque villain obsessed with making the world more manly. The show has recast the voice actresses of the three girls and also doesn't involve original creator Craig McCraken, but it certainly looks to capture the same style and vibe of the first series that went off the air more than 11 years ago.

The Powerpuff Girls is set to premiere on Cartoon Network in April.
