Call of Duty: Black Ops 3  is now available on Steam for just $14.99, but here's the deal: it's only the multiplayer portion of the game.

Touted as a multiplayer starter kit, Activision probably had in mind the players who were only out to take some names in the competitive scene.

Players will be able to join public ranked matches and access to features, including the Weapon Paint Shop, Gunsmith, Arena, Freerun, Theater and the Black Market.

What they won't be getting are the Zombie and Campaign game modes and the ability to participate in custom multiplayer matches and access Dead Ops Arcade II, Nightmare modes, and Fresh Start their profiles.

On top of those restrictions, they won't be allowed to use mod tools and content and the unranked server browser when they roll out, and their levels will be capped at 55 without the option to Prestige.

On that note, this is more or less an online-only variant, with Freerun the only mode playable offline.

This downgraded version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 doesn't only benefit players who only want to play multiplayer, but it can also be a great way for interested players who want to try the game out first before forking more than $59.99 for the full game.

With that said, anyone who avails the multiplayer starter kit has the option to go for a full game upgrade that costs $45 or a digital deluxe upgrade for $85. In other words, this $14.99 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 can be considered as a demo of sorts.

For those who are wondering, players can still get the Season Pass, but the content will be limited to the multiplayer goodies of the DLC. Also, they'll carry over their COD points when they upgrade to the full game.

One last thing: they'll sport an icon next to their names in the lobby to indicate that they are running this limited version.

Long story short, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer starter kit is already up on Steam for an affordable price of $14.99, and it will only be available until Feb. 29.

With the Awakening DLC live, now is a good time to get in on the action.
