Life on Mars isn't as glamorous as one might think: especially considering what it looks like in a new trailer for Spiders Studios/Focus Home Interactive's new sci-fi RPG The Technomancer.

Although the trailer does show off a beautiful red Martian landscape as a wanderer roams over the planet, it also depicts a world that is dangerous, and showcases some of the hazards players can expect to come across while playing the game.

The Technomancer takes place hundreds of years after the first humans settled on the red planet. The player must cross the red plains pursued by a corrupt police force, while attempting to uncover a secret that could change Mars and those who live there forever.

"The Technomancer takes place after a cataclysmic event that decimated the population and isolated the red planet from Earth," writes Spiders Studio in an email press release. "The pioneering optimism of the early colonies has long since vanished. In its place lies no man's lands, sprawling shanty towns, and broken cities governed by shadowy officials. The fractured settlements offer protection from the lethal radiations of the sun, but they're far from safe havens: desperate criminals and terrifying, mutated creatures lie in wait for the unprepared."

In the game, players take on the role of a technomancer, a warrior mage with cybernetic implants that amplify electrical-based powers. Technomancers begin training at a young age on how to use their innate powers and eventually must pass an initiation rite.

Although fighting is part of The Technomancer, players will also have to engage in conversation, where the dialogue they choose alters the game's story. Players can also use skill trees to customize their abilities, as well as craft weapons, equipment and armor.

"On the run from the Secret Police and confronted by the harsh realities of the red planet, you must undertake a quest that takes you through forgotten paradises, cities lost under the ice, and dystopian shanties sprawled across Mars' dusty embrace," writes Spiders Studio. "Faced with the cruelty of Mars' iron-fist enforcers and alien wildlife, can you survive long enough to uncover the truth behind The Technomancer?"

Although there's no release date yet, The Technomancer will eventually arrive on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
