Motorola will now join both Apple and Samsung by introducing its latest flagship device in September. Official images of the Moto X + 1 have leaked and show off a new design, wood case, and Verizon-bound model.

September is shaping up to be an eventful month for smartphone fans and consumers. The most popular handset makers are all planning on announcing their new high-end devices during the month.

Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Note 4 phablet at its Unpacked event scheduled for Sept. 3. The Galaxy Note 3 successor will reportedly boast a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, which will pack a resolution of 2560 x 1440. The handset also looks to sport a redesigned metal-framed case that closely resembles the look of Apple's current and outgoing iPhone 5s.

Apple is believed to be scheduling a press event to announce its latest iPhone 6 models on Sept. 9. The show will center on the public release of its next-generation iOS 8 OS and two new and larger iPhones in the form of the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6. We got our first look at a fully assembled 4.7-inch iPhone 6 recently, while the larger 5.5-inch model has been rumored to run into manufacturing issues, which might push its release back a few weeks after the 4.7-inch device first becomes available.

Now we can confirm that Motorola will join Apple and Samsung when it officially unveils the Moto X + 1, Moto G2, and Moto 360 smartwatch at a press event on Sept. 4. An official press image of the Moto X + 1 has leaked which also confirms the smartphone will be heading to Verizon.

Evleaks posted an image of the Verizon Moto X + 1 and it matches previous leaked photos of the device. Though the image confirms the flagship smartphone will definitely be heading to Verizon wireless, the Moto X + 1 will likely be available on all U.S. major carriers like its predecessor, the Moto X. The image also indicates that Motorola will allow customers to customize the smartphone with its Moto Maker site, with the inclusion of a Moto X + 1 with a rear case made of wood.

We'll bring you all of Motorola's latest announcements on Sept. 4.
