It took Ryan Reynolds and his collaborators at least a decade to get a green light for "Deadpool" and it has been breaking box office records since its release on Feb. 12, even with a modest budget for a superhero movie. That is why it makes sense when the film's writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, revealed in an interview published on Feb. 26 that they are not focusing on turning the green-lit sequel to "Deadpool" into a crossover with X-Men anytime soon.

For the most part, Reese and Wernick believe that Marvel's past decisions to build up a hero in its own film first before making a cross-over, just like how it was done with "Iron Man" and "The Avengers," would be the most sensible thing to do.

It's like what they did for "Iron Man," where Tony Stark appeared in two of his own movies first before "Avenges" came out.

"If left up to us, I think that would be a very prudent path," Reese said.

We know that a Deadpool shows up with the X-Men and even Spider-Man every now and then. Deadpool's cameo on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is practically proof of that, in spite of the butchery to the mercy with a mouth's Deadpoolness. But regardless of the major flaw in that cameo, Marvel established the "X-Men" and "Deadpool" connection in the cinematic universe.

"Deadpool's now become a brand and franchise unto himself, independent of the 'X-Men' [...] and you'll see synergy between those two properties, but they're two very distinct brands," Wernicke said.

But there's a slight problem. The current "X-Men" films are focused on its origins and takes place three decades ago while Reynold's "Deadpool" origin is set in the present time. There's a lot of catching up to do for the two to actually meet and initiate a cross-over.

When it does happen, though, both Reese and Wernick say that they will be sure to have a hand in it. "I think everything that 'Deadpool' is involved in we will have a hand in and it's a universe that Ryan [Reynolds] and us are very close to and very protective of," they said. We're pretty sure Deadpool's fans would not have it any other way.

"Deadpool" was only able to access lesser known mutants in the "X-Men Universe" in its first film, though it hinted at the appearance of Cable for the sequel, who Reese and Wernick confirmed will really be a part of the next film. There are also hints that Domino could show up because of her relation to Cable.

Both Cable and Domino belong to the X-Force, the more aggressive version of X-Men.
